The Los Angeles Dodgers placed center fielder Andruw Jones on the 15-day disabled list Saturday because of an injured right knee that will require surgery and sideline him at least 4 to 6 weeks. Jones, who signed a two-year, $36.2 million contract last winter after 12 good seasons with the Atlanta Braves, has struggled in Los Angeles.

Freshman left fielder Casey McMurray earned his first career Big Ten Player of the Week honor Monday, the conference office announced, after going 11-for-15 (.733) in four games against Penn State over the weekend. It is the second-straight week that an Illini has earned the laurel, with Joe Bonadonna nabbing the honor last week, and the first time that an Illini freshman has been named Player of the Week since Craig Marquie accomplished the feat on April 31, 1997.

Jimmy Rollins found his stroke in a hurry. Rollins came off the disabled list Friday and the NL MVP hit a two-run homer in his third at-bat for the Philadelphia Phillies in the series opener against the San Francisco Giants. Rollins, batting leadoff and starting at shortstop, grounded out in the first and third innings before connecting for his third homer of the year with two outs in the fifth.
Boston Red Sox starter Curt Schilling played long toss before Thursday's game against the Detroit Tigers, continuing his rehabilitation from a shoulder injury.
Red Sox manager Terry Francona said that the session went well, although progress hasn't been as quick as the 41-year-old pitcher would like.
"He wants to feel like he's 24 again, and I don't know how likely that's ever going to be," Francona said.

It is the Orange and Blue's longest homestand since playing 12 straight games at home from March 27-April 9, 1992. A little over a month into the season and Cleveland manager Eric Wedge is searching for answers as the Indians struggle to score runs. Sunday's 2-0 loss to Kansas City provided even more frustration for Wedge.
